How does biochar work? What makes a quality biochar? Can it be used in alkaline soils? In this presentation, Lindsey and Zack will review the research, standards and real-world case studies defining biochar use. Whether granular, liquid, or mixtures of multiple products, this presentation aims to teach the working arborist how to understand and utilize biochar in their PHC practices.

Speaker Bio:

Purcell, Lindsey – Lp Consulting Group 

Lindsey Purcell, principal of Lp Consulting Group, has over 40 years of experience in community landscape and urban forestry. He is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and has worked with communities across the U.S. at various levels of government and private sector. Purcell retired from 21 years of teaching at Purdue University and Vincennes University and has published a book titled Arboricultural Practices; a science-based approach to tree care. As an educator, author, and arborist, Purcell provides educational opportunities and products for professional arborists and urban foresters internationally. Additionally, Purcell serves as Executive Director of the Indiana chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture. He is also an American Society of Consulting Arborists Registered Consulting Arborist and holds the ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification as a certified instructor by the International Society of Arboriculture.

Zack Shier, Board Certified Master Arborist (BCMA), ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualified, Ohio certified applicator, and Vice President of the Ohio Chapter ISA, is a commercial account manager with Joseph Tree Service LLC, an accredited, 14-year TCIA member company based in Dublin, Ohio.
