Joe Aiken and Korey Lofy, Arborjet | Ecologel
Joe and Korey, hosts of the “Discovering Forestry” podcast, are back for the fifth consecutive year. At TCI Expo 2026, the pair will lead a discussion with special guest Dr. Mica McMillan from the University of Florida.
Joe, Korey, and Dr. McMillan will explore the “hidden half” of tree care, unpacking the intricate connection between roots and soil. The panelists will dig into the science behind soil biology, what constitutes a functional root system, and how both can influence tree health. For PHC professionals, understanding key factors below-grade is vital to success above ground.
The session will also cover the tools and techniques needed to properly care for the hidden half. Joe, Korey, and Dr. McMillan will give insights on how to execute critical services such as soil remediation and rejuvenation, radial trenching, and root collar excavation. Whether adding these services or refining current processes, industry professionals will learn how to dial in their own practices and cultivate healthy roots and soil.
Attendees can look forward to a free-flowing, informative session from industry veterans with decades of combined experience. There will be plenty of time for Q&A at the end.
