In this session, we will demonstrate one of our favorite methods of steel cable installation. This solution isn’t the perfect method for every cabling situation, but it is a very accessible solution for most arborists, regardless of previous cabling experience!

In this presentation, NATS will go over the limitations of our rigging systems. They will help you explore different scenarios and use load cells to see forces applied during rigging. They’ll talk about system compatibility and how to tweak your setup to minimize impact.

Megan Bujnowski, CTSP, Upward Training & Development

Moving away from the traditional 4-minute rescue scenarios found in climbing competitions, this session takes a focused look at some different uses for standard rescue methods. No two rescue sites are the same, but some similarities can be found in most. Join Megan at the demo tree for a closer look at some aerial rescue specialties.

Jeff Inman, Jr., CTSP, Truetimber Arborists, Inc.

How we go about our work can either be incredibly helpful or wildly hurtful. Rushing through decisions tends to begin with a source of being uncomfortable. Positioning the body for maximum comfort in uncomfortable places increases our chances for success in a big way. This seminar is about some simple and key concepts to aid in improving work positioning and allowing for better decision making.

John Ball, CTSP, South Dakota State University

We continue to improve the efficiency of our climber equipment and system in arboriculture. What we use today has little resemblance to what was used even a decade or two ago. But while we talk about efficiency, we have been very vague on what is meant by the term. This demonstration will show how we can measure efficiency of climbing with a look at how changes in systems, gear and even rope diameter can impact the energy we use to ascend a tree.

North American Training Solutions

The team from NATS will compare moving rope systems to stationary rope systems, using load cells to measure the forces applied when a climber employs one or the other.

In this presentation, NATS will use load cells to help you understand the factors at play when two people need to be on one system. Learn about rescue preparedness as a team endeavor and go over a few popular climbing set ups and how best to use those (or not) in a rescue situation.

Lawrence Schultz, Independent Trainer

In the spar demo class we will be looking at potential dynamic forces involved and how they differ from overhead rigging situations. A portion of the demo will focus on safe work positioning, proper rigging and transitioning both set ups.

As a courtesy to our attendees, TCIA submits our program to various industry organizations for CEU approval prior to the show.
Tree Demo’s earn 1 ISA CEU and 1 CTSP CEU.

A big thanks to members of St. Louis Arborist Association (visit them in Booth #210!), led by arborists from Metropolitan Forestry Services of Ballwin, MO. for donating our demo tree this year!
